Heavy and thick fabrics are excellent sound-absorbing, for example velvet is an excellent ally to limit the rumble in interiors but its “heaviness” is not always suitable. Because of its sound-absorbing properties, velvet curtains would be perfect but sometimes it would be too dark. So here’s the magic: these light and transparent curtains can absorb noises. They are Carmen, Marmara, Formoza, Capri and Corsica and they are part of the “Acoustic” collection of fabrics by the Dutch company Vescom.

Sound-absorbing is the ability of a material to absorb sound energy and thus increase acoustic comfort within a space. On the contrary, the acoustic insulation instead prevents the propagation of noise outside a space.

While designing a space – whether it is a home, an office, a coffee shop or a restaurant – it is very important consider the properties of materials: for example, reflecting surfaces, such as concrete, glass and marble, have high reverberation times. It is necessary to combine them with sound-absorbing materials capable of dampening noises to obtain a space that is not only beautiful but also comfortable.

These new Vescom fabrics are light, transparent and even fireproof, and in everyday use are simple curtains, you can wash and treat them like common fabrics but they promise incredible high performances!
