Operae, the event dedicated to the independent design, just opened at Palazzo Cisterna in Turin. Till November 6 you can find 33 young international designers, a focus about collecting contemporary design and craft. These are the ingredients of the seventh edition of Operae.
This year’s theme is Designing the future to investigate the awareness of designer’s choices that will determine our future. “What are the consequences of design?”.
This is my favorite project from the event: Studio Thomas Vailly (Eindhoven, The Netherlands)
This year, for the first time, Operae dedicates a focus about design collectibles involving 9 specialized galleries. As a former gallery owner, I assure you that working with an artist/designer creating a project is really exciting. It is about research and working together to make it possible. Being part of the creation process is definitely the best part of the job!
Operae presents Piedmont Handmade, a special project where, thanks to the collaboration between an artist, a gallery and a local craftsman they made new projects that are presented here for the first time.
Last ingredient of the event is 380. Notes on Ancient University of Minusieri. On the occasion of the 380th anniversary of the University of Minusieri, dedicated to woodworking, the designer duo Zaven was asked to translate the ancient carving in a contemporary language. The profit from the sale of the two unique pieces will be donated for the earthquake emergency in Central Italy.
