It’s official: Starbucks will open the first Italian cafè in Milan! We don’t know yet the date but the address will be Piazza Cordusio 3, in the former Palazzo delle Poste. It won’t be alone… Uniqlo, the fashion Japanese brand, is coming too with a huge 6 floors store! I can’t wait!
It will be a new kind of Starbucks with a lot of espresso coffee but also the typical American menu. This is a kind of gamble, Italian people are very demanding about coffee!
But if it weren’t for Italy, Starbucks might not exist. After all, it was on a business trip to Milan in 1983 that Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO, had the inspiration on which he built his global empire. At the time, Starbucks was a coffee roaster in Seattle. Milan changed literally their history!
But there is more: yesterday the Municipality of Milan announced that Starbucks is the new sponsor of the green area in Piazza del Duomo. Palm and Banana Trees are on their way!
The green project is from the landscape architect Marco Bay who designed other public space in Milan as Hangar Bicocca and the beautiful giardino della “Serenissima” in via Turati.
The current plants will be moved into other green areas… Palm and Banana Trees are beautiful but they will be appropriate to the landscape of the city?
