The Brera Design District will be, as every year, among the main districts of the Fuorisalone. From April 17 to 22 the streets of the most beloved area of Milan will be animated by events and installations.

This year’s theme, at the ninth edition, will be “Be Human: design with empathy”. Empathy is the ability to identify and understand people’s needs before creating solutions. It is one of the fundamental requirements in the work of a designer and in our society where technology is increasingly gaining space is one of the most important human values that robots could never replace (maybe).

“Empathy links design with life, it can also tune into its imperfection” – Laura Boella, Fondazione Empatia Milano

If empathy is the engine that moves the creative phase, the emotion is often the direct result of it and events scheduled for the 2018 Fuorisalone promise a lot of emotions!

The most waited events at the Brera Design District for the Fuorisalone 2018

Brera Design Apartment – Souvenir Milano

This year the apartment on the 3rd floor in via Palermo 1 will be the location for a special collection of Souvenirs dedicated and inspired by Milan and designed by 12 designers: Stories_of_Italy, Maddalena Selvini, Cynthia Vilchez Castiglioni, Augustina Bottoni, Astrid Luglio, Sara Ricciardi, Giulio Ceppi, Giovanna Carboni, Sour per Bottega Nove, Leftover per StudioF, Giulio Iacchetti and Gio Tirotto. These souvenirs will be for sale in a limited edition during the Fuorisalone.
The apartment (free entry from 17 to 22 April, from 12 to 7.30 p.m.) will be also an opportunity to see a beautiful Milanese interior.

Tram Corallo – Cristina Celestino

I can not wait to see this project: a historic tram from 1928 has been totally reinvented by the Italian designer Cristina Celestino and transformed into a cinema! “Corallo” is one of the most popular names for cinemas, there is one practically in every city (in Milan it is signed by the BBPR studio!). The tram will run through the streets of the Brera District and will allow you to make a true Milanese experience. The tram will be covered with fine fabrics, trimmings, regimental graphics … not to be missed! It will be a real hunt, practically the unicorn of the 2018 Fuorisalone!

Unfortunately, no preview images of this project have been left out yet …

Don’t Call Me… Dafne – Elena Salmistrato

The designer and artist Elena Salmistrato, in collaboration with Timberland, will create a large installation in Piazza XXV Aprile: a big tree that when touched and embraced will pulsate and store energy that will make it glow with the darkness in a luminous show! The magic of hugs!

Mi-Orto

Also in piazza XXV Aprile, right in front of Eataly, a vegetable garden will appear (starting April 10). This is a shared project open to all Milan citizens. There will be also workshops, events and conferences.

Vitra, Typecasting – La Pelota

La Pelota is one of the most beautiful locations of Fuorisalone (via Palermo 10) and this year will host the mega installation by Vitra signed by Robert Stadler. I can not wait to find out what they have imagine for the Fuorisalone 2018!

Wallpaper Magazine – Mediateca Santa Teresa

Wallpaper Magazine also this year will be present at the Mediateca Santa Teresa (via della Moscova 28). Not to be missed!

Installation 2017 – Photo Mattia Vacca

Interni, Material Immaterial – Orto Botanico di Brera

Not to be missed even just for the location, a secret garden in the heart of Milan!

The Secret Place of Design – Chiostro Grande di San Simpliciano

Have you ever been in the Chiostro of San Simpliciano? Simply unmissable! This year it will be the location for Nodus, Exto, Mati ‘, Tao Design.

MT Masking Tape – via Ciovasso 17

Washi tapes are ready to invade the Brera Design District celebrating their 10 years! In via Ciovasso 17 a temporary shop is coming … unmissable !! There will also be the new collection dedicated to the home décor!

Casa Gifu III – Atelier Oï – corso Garibaldi 42

Ecal, via dell’Orso 16

The school of art and design of Lausanne always offers interesting student projects, as well as letting you discover a beautiful milanese courtyard with a giant wisteria!

HAY – Palazzo Clerici, via Clerici 5

I love Hay and the location will leave you speechless!

Hem – via Statuto 8

Panasonic – Pinacoteca di Brera

Design districts Crumpled Maps

News: the Fuorisalone 2018 will present the first Crumpled Map of the design district collection by Studiolabo (the creative studio that organizes the Brera Design District) and Palomar. The map of Brera (pay attention: this is not the map of the Fuorisalone but of the Brera district!) is the first map of the collection dedicated to the best design district of the world. Don’t you know what a Crumpled Map is? Impossible! They are those city maps you can crumple in order not to go crazy trying to fold them with the correct folds!
They will be on sale in some locations in the district.

Other interesting news from the Brera Design District:

Also this year the Rigotondo nursery school (Foro Buonaparte 20) helps you with children: you can leave them here while you visit the district!

Are you thinking of a way to save these events and visit them during the Fuorisalone? Relax, I’ll do it for you: this year, for the third year in a row, there will be the Gucki’s App for iPhone and Android (you can already download it, it will be updated soon) and guide with all the best events not to be missed!
