What makes you immediately think of a custom made kitchen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;An expensive kitchen is all about simplicity; the more you spend, the less complicated it looks.&#8221; Luke McClelland<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mcclelland-design.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Luke McClelland<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is an English architect, he has designed many expensive kitchens for his clients, but <strong>when he designed his own kitchen, he managed to recreate the aesthetics of an expensive kitchen by dealing with a limited budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke lives in Edinburgh with his family in a beautiful Georgian terraced house with herringbone wood floors and decorated ceilings. Within this classic style environment, he has been able to mix modern and vintage furnishings. The open kitchen on the dining area, is a perfect mix of functionality and aesthetics, with a careful eye on the budget!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/gucki.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Come-trasformare-una-cucina-ikea-in-una-cucina-di-lusso--1024x731.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gucki.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Come-trasformare-una-cucina-ikea-in-una-cucina-di-lusso--1024x731.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gucki.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Come-trasformare-una-cucina-ikea-in-una-cucina-di-lusso--300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gucki.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Come-trasformare-una-cucina-ikea-in-una-cucina-di-lusso-.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are the best-selling\/on-budget kitchens in the world?<\/strong> <strong>Ikea of course!<\/strong> Luke then <strong>started from an Ikea kitchen and was able to &#8220;hack&#8221; it<\/strong>, transforming it into a kitchen that you would never say was from Ikea!<br><strong>I asked Luke to tell us how he designed his kitchen and to give us some advice on how to replicate this simple and very scenic aesthetic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">Q. How did you transform your Ikea kitchen into what looks like an expensive custom made kitchen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A.<\/strong> There is no doubt that Bulthaup and Boffi, for example, have an excellent product. However, the reality for most people is that the price is prohibitive. When designing our own kitchen, <strong>we borrowed all the best qualities of the premium suppliers; symmetry, simplicity, clean lines.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">Q. How did you design your Ikea kitchen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A.<\/strong> <strong>We sourced \u2018off the shelf\u2019 Ikea cabinet fronts <\/strong>that belied their price with solid oak lippings <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ikea.com\/it\/it\/search\/products\/?q=Ekestad\" target=\"_blank\">Ekestad<\/a> and a crisp matt black finish <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ikea.com\/it\/it\/search\/products\/?q=Kungsbacka\" target=\"_blank\">Kungsbacka<\/a> to integrate the kitchen with furniture that we already had.<br>Plus: <strong>the Kungsbacka range also appeals as it&#8217;s made out of recycled plastic PET-bottles and reclaimed wood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">Q. Where did you hide all the appliances?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A. The kitchen top is not Ikea. How did you choose it?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A. <\/strong>Using a <strong>full stave oak worktop provided a more natural finish<\/strong> than the standard thin-strip worktops typically used. We treat with Osmo Top Oil, every 12 months works for us. <br><strong>Often people tend to choose stone for worktops thinking that it is more durable<\/strong>, but <strong>I love wood, especially when you have to respect a limited budget<\/strong>. It&#8217;s obviously important not to put hot pots etc directly on the wood, but <strong>solid wood can be renewed easily with simple sandpaper.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">Q. How did you recreate the aesthetic of an expensive custom-made kitchen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">The kitchen cabinets were framed by plasterboard paneling, a great idea to recreate the custom made aesthetic.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Luke did not stop here (as I did in my kitchen!) and he added a truly polished detail: <strong>the surplus offcuts from the worktop were used to frame the cabinets and doorway to enhance the feeling of integration. How did you choose appliances?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A. We\u2019ve gone for nice appliances where you see them<\/strong>, but where you don\u2019t see them, we\u2019ve gone for lower-end ones that are functional.\u00a0<br>For example, we choose an induction cooktop from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bosch-home.com\/it\/elenco-prodotti\/cottura\/piani-cottura\/piani-cottura-a-induzione\/PUE611BF1E\" target=\"_blank\">Bosch<\/a> and a nice black <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lussostone.com\/taps-c3\/kitchen-taps-c31\/flow-matte-black-single-lever-kitchen-mixer-tap-p1243\/s1969?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=lusso-flow-matte-black-single-lever-kitchen-mixer-tap&amp;utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&amp;cid=GBP&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwmf_4BRABEiwAGhDfSV1lF12iPafBiTc7OcGyATY8NlWQ-_LEAcJnAxWLbGScQw_vwsxueBoCkAQQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">faucet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">Q. Where do you get inspiration for your interiors?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A.<\/strong> <strong>My wife and I are very much influenced by Scandinavian design<\/strong>.
